How to Use Photo CD

We recommend that you have Photoshop software version 4.0 or higher.

1. Use Photoshop, go to File - Open, then select the PHOTO-CD and open.

2. Open the folder PHOTO_CD then IMAGES.

3. Select the file number that matches the index prints of the file you want, then select Open.

4. Set the source and destination. As a general guide, if the film was originally a transparency then select pcdekycc.pf as the source. If the film was a negative select pedcnycc.pf. The destination will vary depending on the specific use of the image, but for optimal quality, select Adobe RGB 1998.

5. Photo CD scans ARE NOT print ready quality. PCD scans must be adjusted and cleaned. To adjust the image go to Image - Adjust - Levels, and using the histogram, tighten the distance between the shadow and highlight densities. Move the midtone level to the left (to lighten) or the the right (to darken). You must determine for yourself what looks best.

NOTE: If you have Photoshop version 6 or higher, make sure the Photo CD plug-ins are installed. They can be found in the applications folder. If you cannot find them, you can reinstall the Photoshop software or Kodak does provide the plug-ins needed to open Photo CD images on their website along with all other technical information you may require.
