Artist's Statement
Marvin (Murf) Murphy was born in Miami in 1958. Murf first became
ambitious with his artistic endeavors while he was still in his teens.
For over one decade, Murf experimented in an unusual art medium using
acrylic sheets of film and multiple panels of glass. His experimentation
paid off, for now Murf is well known for a medium he worked so hard to devise.
Murf uses both a combination of hand-cut detail and a keen sense of color,
design, and form to create dynamic images as never seen before.
Murf has since published many other popular images over the years. Some
of his most sought after designs include "Safari", "Exotica", "Tropical Cool",
"Tribal Path", and "In The Wild". His whimsical piece "Joy of Sax" is
owned by President Bill Clinton. His environmental piece "Dolphin Song" is
owned by Vice President Al Gore.
Murf claims many of the inspirations of his art can be attributed to his love
of nature, music and science. Over the past decade, Murf has been deeply
involved in environmental projects. His latest piece, just released in 2000,
entitled "Earth Island", is being promoted for the purpose of raising funds
for environmental and educational organizations.
Over the years, Murf has won numerous awards and prizes for his work. He
has been written up in magazines and newspapers throughout the country.
Today, Murf's work is being recognized by collectors all over the world. His
New-Age style and distinctive art form has led to his great success as an
up-and-coming artist. Murf's work can now be seen in prominent galleries
and exhibitions across the country.
